Three projects granted in Team Science call in Digital Society
The Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) and COMMIT/ have awarded 135.000 euros to three new Team Science projects in the Digital Society Research Agenda of the VSNU. The granted projects focus on the topic of digitalisation, inclusion and participation. In the three projects researchers from various fields co-operate not only with other academics, but also with community members and other stakeholders.
Making way for all aspects of quality
Today, the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU), the Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) will present the new Strategy Evaluation Protocol (SEP). Once every six years, the research organisations revise the evaluation protocol for academic research, which is used by research universities and KNAW and NWO institutions to evaluate research units.

The VSNU responds to the report 'Balance in the science system'
The VSNU is grateful to Minister Van Engelshoven and the Weckhuysen Committee for the report Balance in the science system and the recommendations that they have made. It is a good report with the necessary attention for unrelated research. The VSNU agrees with the Commission that the balance between independent and strategic research must be restored.

Dutch research institutions and Elsevier reach framework agreement
The Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU), The Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centres (NFU), The Dutch Research Council (NWO) and information and analytics business Elsevier have reached a framework agreement. NWO President Stan Gielen: “This agreement is in accordance with Plan S and is a huge step towards 100% open access and therefore a major breakthrough for open science in the Netherlands.” Overall it means that Dutch research institutions and Elsevier will embark on a new and innovative approach to scientific research, making it more transparent, collaborative, efficient, in support of social issues and questions. VSNU’s chief-negotiator Tim van der Hagen: “This is the beginning of a new way of working for science. We will be in the driving seat of what’s important for science in the future and the applicable rules of engagement and services needed in this context.”
